City walking tours of Vienna are always interesting, inspiring and filled with color and life. For instance, start at the Naschmarkt near Karlsplatz U-Bahn station, where you can experience the most exotic of Viennese markets. Buzzing with locals, the market offers fruits, vegetables, spices and delicacies from around the world.
Afterwards, you can stroll along to one of the many colourful trendy bars in the area and listen to music from local and international bands and DJs. Wherever you end up, you will find a multicultural atmosphere that brings together all parts of Vienna.
Flea market & Schleifmühl
One of the most exciting “street life” experiences in Vienna takes place every Saturday near the hotel, in one of the city’s largest flea markets. Decorations, artworks, music.. the variety is endless and exciting. Browsing the market also makes a refreshing change from traditional sightseeing tours.
Close by is the Schleifmühl district – a lively and refreshing area popular with young artists.
Vienna Secession Building
Within walking distance of the hotel is the famous Vienna Secession Building – keep an eye out for its huge golden dome. Built in 1897, this exhibition building shares the name of the famous association of artists that included Gustav Klimt, Koloman Moser and Joseph Maria Olbrich.
Take the time to visit the basement and admire Gustav Klimt’s 34-meter-long Beethoven Frieze, a pictorial interpretation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Shopping in the 7th
The Seventh District of Vienna is the city’s best kept secret for shoppers. The streets and lanes here teem with trendy design stores showcasing everything from fashion to shoes and accessories.
The secret, however, is no longer such a big secret, and stylists and fashionistas are happy to show this amazing collection of shops to visitors. To book a tour, email: H6599-CR@sofitel.com
